Rows of new caged IBC totes

When you buy a used or reconditioned tote, its history matters more than its looks. These questions help you avoid a mismatch.

Questions to ask

  1. What did these totes hold? Can you share the label or safety data sheet?
  2. Were they drained fully? Rinsed? Washed? How?
  3. Have the valves and gaskets been replaced?
  4. Do all totes in the lot share the same previous contents?
  5. Can you send photos of the interiors?

Reading the answers

  • Unknown contents: treat the tote as unsuitable for anything sensitive.
  • Hazardous contents: handling and reuse may be regulated; check current regulations.
  • Food or food ingredients: still confirm cleaning before reusing for food.

Partner suppliers who quote through IBC Second Life can answer these questions for the units they offer. Ask before you accept a quote.
